Sudan Aids Network

Vision

A National Network of Civil Society Organization working in HIV/AIDS field acting as a think tank, and an advocacy & coordinating body for efforts addressing HIV/AIDS in Sudan. SAN exists to organize, develop and sustain caring volunteer communities that serve and support persons living with, affected by, or at risk for HIV/AIDS in Sudan. We envision communities where persons infected or affected by HIV/AIDS live dignified lives, and where every individual understands the true nature of risk.

Mission Statement:

SAN is dedicated to preserving the dignity and rights of PLWHA and helping in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS by providing education and other interventions in attitudes and behaviors to empower PLWHA to respond positively to the challenges they face. - Dedicated to the support of AIDS research, AIDS prevention, treatment education, and the advocacy of sound AIDS-related public policy. SAN is operationally effective and coordinating efforts of combating HIV/AIDS in the areas of prevention, care, support, mitigation, research and advocacy.

Objectives

  • To contribute to the decrease in the number of new HIV infections and to work towards mitigating the socio-economic impact of the epidemic in the country by setting up cooperation mechanisms that will enable access to quality institutional and technical support, and to share strategic information.
  • To effectively coordinate multi-pectoral programs that strategically address HIV/AIDS in order to promote healthy sexual behavior, reduce discrimination against PLWHA and provide easy and accessible prevention services.
  • To support, educate and advocate for those living with and affected by HIV and related conditions and protect the human rights of all people threatened by the epidemic of HIV/AIDS.
  • Boost the managerial capabilities of SAN's members and other partners (NGOs and CBOs) working on HIV/AIDS for quality services.
  • Strengthen supervision, monitoring, evaluation and information management systems and develop an appropriate feedback mechanism.
  • Promote safer sexual practices and responsible behavior in all target groups and ensure behavioral change towards HIV / AIDS prevention, control and management.
  • Seek support, commitment and recognition from policy makers and the general public to overcome discriminatory policies and practices associated with/HIV/ AIDS prevention, control and management.
  • Contribute to reducing HIV/AIDS incidence in Sudan by advocating for the provision of quality STI/HIV/AIDS services to vulnerable and high risk populations.
  • Advocate for provision of quality HIV/AIDS counseling services, in a gender and youth friendly environment to vulnerable and high-risk groups. Capacity building and networking.
  • Establish co-ordination and functional relationship with NGOs ad governmental sectors at national level working on HIV/AIDS prevention, care and support, control and management for sharing resources and experiences.
  • Establish relationship with local and international funding organizations, aid agencies, and research and training institutions for resources and technical assistance.
  • Strengthen coordination, functional relationship and networking with professional organizations and institutions within the country for program implementation and research.

Activities

  • Conduct exchange visits inside and outside the country to share experiences to replicate successful programs
  • Provide knowledge and skills to stakeholders (adolescents and youths, peer and women groups, etc.) to promote HIV/AIDS services.
  • Enhance the technical and managerial capabilities of SAN members and volunteers by organizing trainings, workshops, seminars, observation and experience sharing.
  • Advocate for safer sexual practices and responsible behavior through mass media, inter personnel communication and lobbying.
  • Advocate the abolition of discriminatory policies and practices and other hindrance to HIV/AIDS prevention, control and management at all levels through media campaign, lobbying, workshop, seminars, and personal interactions.
  • Review HIV/AIDS prevention and control activities implemented by NGOs and government agencies and disseminate successful models/activities reciprocally.
  • Identify and implement collaborative programs with governments.
  • Sharing expertise in HIV/AIDS service delivery and research.
  • Establish relationship with international research/training institutions for technical assistance- particularly trainers, training manuals, and cross-country experience of HIV/AIDS prevention and control.
  • Establish linkages with research institutes and universities for research and surveillance.
